Systematic view of art local studies as a holistic cultural and synthesized phenomenon is described in the article. The essence and content of the terms «local studies», «school local studies», «pedagogical local studies» are determined on the base of scientific-problematic approach. The terms «musical local studies» and «art local studies» as the integral to local studies science and holistic cultural phenomenon of Volyn region are analysed. The role of musical local studies as a component of art local studies and the important component of national patriotic education of young people is determined. It is a strategic aim and the main course of educational work in teacher training of all art specialities in higher education institution. Pedagogical aspects of local studies as a basis of art local studies and a foundation of Ukrainian ethnopedagogy and national education in teacher training courses of famous educators and Ukrainian artists are determined. The diversity and uncertainty in terminology and interpretation such terms as «local studies» and its derivative concepts are predetermined by multidimensionality of functions (pedagogical, scientific, educational, cultural, exploratory and sybsidizing). The theoretical basis is clearly inadequate. The term «local studies» outlines certain common characteristics of pedagogical multifunctionality, interdisciplinarity, multisectoral, synthetical. Systemically important factor is its national character. Musical local art is considered in two aspects: as a scientific field and a content of musical culture of native land with a view to local studies: as a training discipline in higher education institution.
