The article reviews the methodological peculiarities of V. Sukhomlynsky’s work – the headmaster of Pavlyshska school – that he applied when creating his own pedagogical system which included didactics with a lesson as the main component of it. Having developed the theoretical grounds of a lesson and having distinguished the new forms of its conduct (lessons of thinking, outdoors lessons, lessons of creative development and growth) the scientist was constantly working on the current pedagogical problems solving, concentrating specifically on the improvement of the lesson-based system of education. The specific feature of his education system was the attempt to unite both didactic and disciplinary objectives of a lesson. The paper emphasizes the fact that visiting and analyzing lessons of different teachers became the grounds of managerial, scientific and methodological activity of the headmaster. The scientist was firmly convinced that the formation of teacher’s pedagogical mastery could be developed and improved when preparing, conducting and analyzing a lesson.
The article reveals which of the new, different from the typical (directorial) ones, methodological requirements to lesson analysis V. Sukhomlynsky introduced. This approach allowed the scientist to make the educational process in school more creative, to involve every single student into active participation in the educational process and as a result to create the school as scientific laboratory where every member – from the headmaster to the teacher and student – could successfully develop, create and find the answers to the pressing questions of the day.
The article stresses out that special attention when preparing, conducting and analyzing a lesson was given by V. Sukhomlynsky to the young teachers. He not only attended their lessons but took active part and was involved into the process of lesson preparation with the new coming teachers, paid their attention to the drawbacks, planned the next lesson, together with a teacher was happy with the incase of his success and pedagogical mastery progress. Generally speaking, the article argues that lesson must be ranked high in the managerial activity of any headmaster as it can provide firm grounds of successful scientific, methodological and pedagogical activity of a school. That is why it is extremely important to keep these items in mind and give them priority when preparing school teachers and management.
