The article highlights one of the urgent problems of training future speech therapists – the formation of communicative competence in them. The content of the concept of «communicative competence» is described; the relationship between the development of communicative and rhetorical competence of the future teacher is revealed; the organization of teaching of the educational subject «Rhetoric and culture of speech of correctional educator» is outlined. The role and place of discipline in the system of competent approach to professional training of a special teacher is summarized. The publication presents an analysis of the category «communicative competence» as a linguistic phenomenon, reveals conceptual foundations and the technology of its development in the speech therapist to direct students to the assimilation of communicative speech and rhetorical skills and skills within the subject special training of post graduates. It is proved that the culture of speech is the basis for the development of the general human culture, and communication competence is formed in the process of professional training of a specialist and is a systematic expression of knowledge, skills, abilities and personal qualities that allow to successfully solve functional problems in professional activities. Certain speech communication characteristics are very important for an expert in the field of speech therapy in his/her professional activities, as such specialist is a leading participant of special education process and communication. The article contains the idea that professional language of speech therapist is usually not only the tool, but also the subject of training and special education. It is known that the culture of professional speech can be described through a series of communicative characteristics, such as: correctness, accuracy, consistency, substance, briefness, clarity and accessibility, cleanliness, richness (diversity), appropriateness, expression, aesthetics, and efficiency. The article examines special aspects of manifestation and realization of the above characteristics in professional work of speech therapist. Along with the theoretical material, the article presents a system of exercises, practical advice that will help to make appropriate adjustments to the behavior of communicators. Based on standards and educational programs, the content of the communicative component of the professional competence of the speech is analyzed.
