The article presents the views of domestic researchers on various aspects of the problem of legal education in higher military school in the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. The author also analyzes the normative principles of legal education (first of all, legal education) of future officers of the Armed Forces of the USSR and independent Ukraine. It was determined that the main direction of legal education of officers during the Second World War was to ensure discipline as a guarantee of military capability in general, generalization and application of combat experience, as well as prevention of acts affecting the life, health or dignity of civilians, cultural heritage. It is established that at the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union in the military institutions of higher education in Ukraine there were to some extent the normative principles of the organization of legal education of officers. Thus, in the first half of the twentieth century, the regulation of legal education of officers in higher education was characterized by fragmentation with an emphasis on the process of education. This tendency persisted in the later stages of the formation of legal education of officers in higher education, however, at this time the attention of the legislator shifted, as well as the process of mastering the necessary legal knowledge by military specialists. It was found that in scientific works on philosophy and jurisprudence there is a tendency to equate legal education and upbringing. The author concludes that the correct selection of terms that denote the phenomena of the most important spheres of public life is essential not only to simplify scientific communication, but also to unify their use in rule-making and unity of understanding in the practice of educational institutions. It is argued that the generalization and harmonization of scientific achievements of various fields of knowledge on the problems of legal education optimizes their use in interdisciplinary research.
