THE PROBLEM OF MORAL EDUCATION OF A CHILD IN THE PAGES OF UKRAINIAN PEDAGOGICAL JOURNALS (FIRST THIRD OF THE 20th CENTURY)

Abstract. The article deals with the problem of moral education of the child in the Ukrainian journals  of the first third of the 20^th  century. It is noted that at the present stage of development of education there is a rethinking of educational ideals, so the problem of moral education of the child is extremely relevant. It is emphasized that pedagogical journals are an archival repository of scientific research on various issues, an integral part of national culture and an important source of historical information.

It is found that the problems of moral education in the study period were reflected in the pages of the following journals: “Communist Education» (Kharkov, Kyiv, 1922-1941), “Way of Education» (Kharkov, 1922-1931), “Free Ukrainian School” (Kyiv , 1917–1919 / 1920), “Extracurricular Enlightenment” (Kharkiv, 1918), “Children’s Movement” (Kharkiv, 1925–1941), “Friends of Children” (Kharkiv, 1925–1933), “For Mass Communist Education” (Kharkiv , 1924–1933), “People's School” (Uzhhorod, 1921–1938), “Our School” (Odesa, 1923–1925), “New School” (Poltava, 1914–1918), “Soviet Education” (Kyiv, Kharkiv) , 1923–1931), The Soviet School (Luhansk, 1925–1930), and others.

There were characterized the articles of S. Rusova, I. Levinson, G. Hrynko, V. Rudnikov, P. Klepatsky and V. Shtykhyla, in which the essence of nationally oriented moral education of children was substantiated.

It is proved that interesting discussions on the problem of moral education, “morally defective childhood”, moral education of  “difficult” children, homeless people, etc. took place on the pages of these journals. Moral upbringing of a child in the pages of journals of the first third of the 20^th  century  was substantiated taking into account national and pedagogical knowledge, experience of educational institutions, views of teachers, psychologists, pedologists.
