In the article the content characteristic of competences is investigated, which is promising in the professional activity of a specialist in pre-school education. The analysis of the definitions of “competence” and “competence”, introduced in the scientific works by Ukrainian and foreign scientists, state and regulatory documents has been made. The key components of pedagogical competence are characterized. It is pointed out that it is necessary to continue to develop an evaluation tool for the professional competence of the future educator of the pre-school education. It is noted that the modern educational space stipulates the need to update the content of the competence approach to the training of preschool education specialists, it requires a thorough scientific search in the light of the requirements of the present.
