The article deals with flipped learning as a part of blended learning, where online technologies are used to present educational material. Flipped learning is considered from the point of view of choosing the priority of learning goals when learning a foreign language. Information about the origin of the term flipped learning is presented. Flipped learning is effective for improving the skills of writing, reading, grammar, pronunciation and requires a mandatory progression of the process: remote preliminary self-study of the material before class with a teacher. The development of online services allows the successful implementation of flipped learning, freeing up a lot of time for live communication in a foreign language in-class. Using Google classroom lets students learn at their own pace, mode and place. The authors emphasize the importance of the student's independent work in the study of a foreign language and point to the success of using of the flipped learning technology in a technical university, taking into account the psychological characteristics of engineering students. Students of a technical university represent themselves as those who successfully cope with mastering a part of the educational material individually prior to class. In general, they are able to work independently, have a tendency to introspection, make productive decisions, are responsible and strive to achieve a positive result, since the motivational factors for professional self-determination of engineering students are high motivation in achieving success, low readiness for social interaction and internal personal disposition. The use of flipped learning technology encourages students to take greater responsibility for mastering the educational material, develops the ability to lifelong learning.
