In the article the basic aspects of the education of pupils of Ukrainian brotherhood schools – centers of preservation of culture and traditions of Orthodox Christians are analyzed. Based on chronicles, statutes, archives and literary sources, a retrospective analysis of the educational and scientific traditions of the brotherhood schools of the 16th-17th centuries was carried out. The role of science education of pupils of brotherhood schools in the formation of the contemporary Ukrainian society was considered. The pedagogical works of teachers and mentors of Brotherhood Schools are analyzed, with the purpose of revealing the role of scientific knowledge. The motivational aspect of attracting pupils to education is considered through the authority and pedagogical activity of teachers. Educational activity of the brotherhood schools presented as a result of the interaction of science and clergy. Brotherhood schools were considered as the leading educational and research center of the Ukrainian people with their own library collections and printing houses, in order to carry out not only educational but also educational activities. Although in the eighteenth-century the number of Brotherhood schools began to decrease, they implemented their invaluable historical role in the education of the Ukrainian nation and became a catalyst for the formation of a new scientific elite of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
