The article considers the problem of developing the abilities of older preschoolers to perceive works of Ukrainian painting. Based on the analysis of literature, a description of painting, its genres and the possibility of using it with preschool children are given; the psychological aspects of preschoolers' perception of works of fine art are revealed. Since painting is the most difficult type of fine art for preschoolers to understand, this work should be done with children of older preschool age. The need to use works of Ukrainian painting in working with children is noted, as they reproduce pictures of native nature, objects that surround the child, which are close and familiar to him; evoke positive emotions in the child, a lively response, and resonance. Based on the requirements for selecting works of art for familiarization with preschoolers, the work presents a list of works by Ukrainian painters in the still life, landscape, and portrait genres for working with children of senior preschool age in a preschool educational institution. The work describes in detail the ways of developing the abilities of older preschoolers to perceive works of Ukrainian painting. The need to familiarize children with works of art in order to develop their aesthetic perception, starting with a still life, is justified, since a still life lacks a plot that distracts the child from the aesthetic side of the picture. Here are depicted objects familiar to children and the teacher's task is to help them see these objects from new, unexpected positions. Familiarization with the landscape genre of painting is carried out almost in parallel with still life, since the basis for perceiving works of these genres is direct impressions from the perception of the beauty of nature. Preschoolers' perception of the portrait genre is based on the impression of communicating with people. These should be dynamic portraits of children, embedded in a landscape or a simple plot. Examples are given from the analysis of individual works of Ukrainian painting in these genres. Methods and techniques that contribute to the development of children's ability to perceive the works of Ukrainian painters have been identified.
