The notions of “competence approach”, “competence”, “competence”, “key competencies”,” substantive competencies”,” mathematical competencies” have been analyzed in the article. It is determined that competence forms the basis of qualification of a graduate of any educational institution. The competence of the future teacher of primary school is considered by us as an ability to implement a competent approach in the education of junior pupils. The structure of competencies is established: knowledge; the ability to use this knowledge; evaluation - of yourself, of the world, of your place in the world, of concrete knowledge, of the necessity or indifference to your activity, as well as of the method of its acquisition or use.

It has been established that one of the ways of forming professional competences for future primary school teachers is the interdisciplinary connection of all academic disciplines from the curriculum of teacher training in the direction 013 “Primary education”. It has been established that mathematicalcompetence is a personal entity that characterizes the student's ability to create mathematical models of environmental processes, apply the experience of mathematical activity during solving educational-cognitive and practically oriented tasks necessary for self-realization of students in a changing world. Mathematical competence is defined by us as the ability to see and apply mathematics in real life, to understand the meaning and method of mathematical modeling, the ability to construct a mathematical model, to explore its mathematical methods, to use the obtained results.
