In the article it was analyzed the conceptual principles of the training of future teachers of special schools for the formation of personal qualities in children with mental retardation, which are associated with the upbringing of future educators of the attitude towards ourselves as a subject of humanistic transformations in the educational process in the process of general pedagogical and methodical preparation of means the integration of the content of professional disciplines, the filling of humanistic meanings of the students' activities during the practice, the involvement in research in the field professional activity; the criteria, indicators and types of readiness of the future educator of a special preschool institution for the formation of personality traits in children with mental retardation are determined; personality and professional competence are characterized as components of the prepared readiness of the future teacher; psychological and pedagogical conditions of optimization of the student preparation process for the future pedagogical activity on the formation of personal qualities in children with mental retardation are revealed
