One of the main concepts of the study of the process of becoming and development of social work is gender approach that allows studying participation of women and men in practice of social work, forming  gender roles of workers and clients. Therefore, currently there is not only tracking evolution and the dynamics of women’s representation in the history of social work in Ukraine but also but also in clarification and analyzing experience of famous women, who have made a significant contribution in the area.

Exactly gender approach in process preparation of future social workers is a key precondition forming professional competence as the ability to solve problems on the basis of observance of the principles of gender equality. It is
proved that involvement of students in gender research allows deepening scientific search, to introduce into the scientific discourse the contribution of women in the history of social work, compare with the male, study the process
of their interrelation, trace the difficult way of establishing equal rights between men and women
