THE ORIGINS OF THE PROBLEM OF FORMATION OF NATIONAL IDENTITY OF THE INDIVIDUAL

The article characterizes the origins of the development and formation of the problem of forming the national self-consciousness of the individual. The problem of forming national self-consciousness is currently identified as a priority among the strategic objectives of educating the younger generation. The development of the idea of the Ukrainian national self-consciousness took place in accordance with the process of formation of the Ukrainian nation and reflected all the features, complexities and contradictions of this process.

The main stages of development of ideas of national self-consciousness are determined. The peculiarities of the interpretation of the concept of «national self-consciousness» and its content at each stage are characterized. The position of the progressive pedagogical community on the realization of the ideas of national self-consciousness in the socio-cultural space of each period is clarified. The essence of the concept of national self-consciousness as self-awareness as a representative of a certain ethnic group, nation, understanding of the difference of one's nation from others is highlighted. The main components of the concept of national identity are identified: love for the native land, language, history, culture, traditions, faith, self-awareness of a certain ethnic group, responsible attitude to the future of their country and people, pride in their nation, efforts to achieve a happy fate for their country. It was found that the basis for the formation of national self-awareness was a family that preserved national cultural and educational traditions.

The problem of national self-consciousness has always been the focus of the advanced scientific and pedagogical community, especially developed the following aspects: the status of the native language, its place in the educational and cultural space, the development of the national education system. It is established that the development of the problem of formation of national self-consciousness was influenced by socio-political, national liberation processes in the country, progressive ideas and educational activities of scientific, cultural, pedagogical national elite, development of world science.
