The changes taking place in the field of higher education in the People's Republic of China (PRC) are aimed at improving the quality of vocational education of students in colleges and universities.

The purpose of the article is to analyze the current state of development of professionalism of future physical education teachers in Chinese colleges. The research methods are the analysis of pedagogical foreign and domestic literature, systematization and generalization of research on the problem of professional development of future physical education teachers in Chinese colleges and the method of modeling.

The article analyzes the current state of training of future teachers in Chinese colleges, raises the issue of the need to modernize higher education, which is aimed at improving the quality of teaching, updating educational programs and more. It is determined that the provision of quality training in higher education institutions will contribute to the development of professionalism in future physical education teachers.

The role and significance of the development of professionalism of future physical education teachers are substantiated. The direction of integrated courses taught for future physical education teachers in Chinese colleges is characterized. The main directions to which the changed concept of training future teachers, in particular physical education teachers, should be directed are determined.

The components of professionalism of a physical education teacher, professional abilities that should be formed in applicants in the process of preparation for professional activity are revealed. The importance of forming information and digital literacy in higher education students, which is a component of teacher professionalism, is argued and the factors that have strengthened its importance are identified.

Prospects for further scientific research are outlined, which are related to determining the pedagogical conditions for the development of professionalism of future physical education teachers in the process of professional training.
