Abstract

The article substantiates the positive influence of the native language in the process of learning English. The concepts of "language transfer", "transference", "interference" are analyzed. It is considered how the knowledge of the native language can have a positive effect on the learning of the English language ("transfer") and their negative effect ("interference"), which prevents the rapid and high-quality mastering of a foreign language. The use of the phenomenon of "transfer" is considered on the example of studying the topic "Grammar Tenses in the English Language". It is gradually explained that the native (Ukrainian) and English languages have more similar features than it seems at the beginning of studying grammar. The need to consider the historical discourse of the grammar of the Ukrainian language, which positively affects the understanding of the process of formation of grammatical tenses, is noted. A comparative analysis of the grammar of the tenses of the Ukrainian language and the English language is carried out. Examples of simple sentences show the aspects of sentence construction in all tenses of the English language and the existence of the same constructions in the Ukrainian language and the principles of their construction.  It is provided an explanation as to why in Ukrainian language different forms of the verb are used at the same time with the same subject. It is determined that the leading task of a teacher is not to deny the fact that the grammar of the English language is quite difficult, but with the help of examples to prove that it is clear and logical. It has been found that the use of transfer helps students to understand the presence of so many grammar tenses in the English language. Students begin to think more deeply, make sentences in their native language, taking into account grammatical aspects. In this way, they clearly form their thoughts, avoid mistakes in speech, and the fear of being misunderstood during communication disappears. This approach to learning a foreign language helps prevent mistakes and prevent their occurrence in future during communication. Prospects for further research on the use of transference when studying the topic "Conditional sentences" in the English language are outlined.
