The article provides the importance of a deep rethinking of the
accumulated pedagogical ideas in the history of education, theory and practice of
teaching and upbringing, in the history of Ukrainian culture and literature. It is
proved that Ukrainian teachers, writers, and literary figures of the interwar period
carried out active educational activities, whose experience is valuable and relevant
in the current realities of the development of Ukrainian education, as well as their
pedagogical ideas.

intelligentsia of Volyn in the 20-30s of the 20th century, including: V. Bobynskyi,
I. Vlasovskyi, O. Havryliuk, H. Zhezhko, S. Kozytskyi, J. Kondra, M. Levytskyi,
O. Levchanivska, O. Liaturynska, V. Mizynets, V. Ostrovskyi, K. Polishchuk,
O. Pekarskyi, A. Richynskyi, S. Skrypnyk, U. Samchuk, M. Telezhynskyi and many
others.
The author substantiates the idea that the Kosach family was a powerful centre
of connections between leading Ukrainian figures of Volyn, and conducted extensive
literary, scientific, pedagogical, cultural, educational and folklore activities. The
author analyses the educational activities and pedagogical ideas of Ukrainian writers,
such as: Lesia Ukrainka, O. Levchanivska, U. Samchuk, V. Ostrovskyi, H. Zhurba.
The role of Prosvita and the Women’s Union in the fight against the decline of the
Ukrainian school in Volyn in the interwar period is noted.
It is proved that the works of Ukrainian writers of Volyn of the interwar period
(20-30s of the 20th century) are valuable not only for Ukrainian literature, but also
for pedagogical science, since it was through their works that they defended their
native language and culture, preserved national traditions in education, and
contributed to the formation of national consciousness and the education of a
