Abstract

A literary text’s narrative analysis is one of the research methodologies used in a school literature course, and this article outlines the methodological components of this approach. Interpreted as an interdisciplinary method, narrative analysis aims to comprehend and disclose the processes involved in plot construction, atmosphere creation, story interpretation, and stylistic device selection. Analyzing plot elements, character development, motivation, character conflicts, revealing thematic lines and symbolism, studying stylistics to elicit an emotional response from the reader, tracking the sequence of events and psychological time, and the impact of the reader’s interpretation on the comprehension of the text are all examples of how to study a literary work.

This method is suggested as a useful way to guarantee that high school students have a deeper comprehension of the moral and ethical issues of works that are pertinent to them. This helps to shape students’ moral characteristics, creative faculties, and aesthetic tastes. The work “The Old Lady’s Living Room” by F.Dürrenmatt is used as an illustration, and the peculiarities of the tragicomedy moral responsibility story are discussed. The postmodern work “The Old Lady’s Guest Room” by F.Dürrenmatt delves into the evolution of the moral responsibility narrative, analyzing its unique forms and the history of the category «responsibility» inception. It is suggested to use a set of questions for search work that will offer an angle and possibly even a chance to address important issues in order to get to the heart of a moral or ethical dilemma. Tragicomedy uses grotesque portrayal and paradox to present a situation of moral choice that violates the interests of society and other people, thereby imposing moral responsibility on the individual. This interpretation of the tragicomedy narrative of moral responsibility is done so under the umbrella of the genre.

An emotional, cognitive, and educational component of school analysis is provided by narrative analysis, which is hailed as a flexible technique that encourages a variety of interpretation strategies and allows teachers to interact with literary texts from many viewpoints on an interdisciplinary basis.
