MODERN PHYSICS TEXTBOOKS FOR GENERAL SECONDARY EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN UKRAINE: HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT, TRENDS AND DIRECTIONS FOR UPDATING

The article provides a comprehensive analysis of modern physics textbooks for general secondary education institutions in Ukraine in historical, methodological, and didactic aspects. The state of research on the problem has been characterized. The main stages of the development of domestic textbook creation have been traced – from the first attempts to compile educational manuals in the 19th–20th centuries to modern competency-oriented, integrated, and digital formats. It is noted that in each historical period, its own textbook model was formed, which reflected the scientific, sociocultural, and pedagogical trends of the era. It was emphasized that the current stage of education development, caused by the "New Ukrainian School" reform, highlights the need to update the structure and content of school physics textbooks in accordance with the requirements of competency-based, activity-based, and STEM-oriented approaches. The analysis of modern textbooks confirmed their compliance with the State Standard of Basic Secondary Education (2020) and the Typical Educational Programs, but at the same time, problems of excessive theorization of content, insufficient development of students’ research and practical skills, and limited interactivity and inclusivity have been identified. The feasibility of creating STEM-oriented, modularly integrated and digitally supported textbooks of a new generation that would combine traditional printed and multimedia formats, promote the development of critical thinking, research competencies and the formation of a holistic natural science picture of the world has been  substantiated.
