THE EDUCATIONAL ASPECT OF A FOREIGN LITERATURE LESSON AS ONE OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE LEARNING PROCESS

The article substantiates the necessity of a comprehensive approach to implementing the educational and formative objectives of foreign literature lessons in accordance with the current concept of literary education. It highlights the importance of achieving a harmonious integration of all dimensions of students’ development: moral and ethical, creative, and aesthetic. The role of the teacher is defined as activating learners’ knowledge and skills, directing their efforts toward fulfilling both educational and formative aims, and focusing their attention on literary characters and human qualities that contribute to shaping a personality grounded in humanistic values. The article emphasizes that the teacher’s comprehensive work aimed at developing students’ multifaceted personal qualities, particularly moral, aesthetic, and ethical, during foreign literature lessons should be closely aligned with the content of literary works and stimulate motivation to set formative goals. The study of masterpieces of world literature contributes to students’ aesthetic education and personal self-development through the cultivation of artistic taste, appreciation of literary beauty, imagery, and composition. This process helps learners form their own aesthetic preferences and develop an appreciation for art. The formative aspect is identified as one of the key functions of the foreign literature lesson, realized through students’ assimilation of moral, ethical, aesthetic, and universal human values. The study of world classics fosters worldview formation, broadens intellectual horizons, and develops students’ emotional intelligence. By analyzing characters’ actions, relationships, and motivations, students learn to distinguish between good and evil, truth and falsehood, which promotes personal self-development. In this context, the formative aspect of the foreign literature lesson is presented as an integral component that fosters the formation of a holistic, spiritually enriched, and harmoniously developed personality.
