The article, based on the systematization and analysis of scientific and methodological literature as well as advanced pedagogical experience, examines the problem of patriotic education of schoolchildren and substantiates the effectiveness of using traditional folk outdoor games as a means of fostering patriotism among students of general secondary education institutions.

It is emphasized that the education system as a whole, and the process of physical education in particular, should have a distinctly national character. In this context, the improvement of patriotic education is closely connected with the introduction of elements of folk physical culture into educational practice, which possess developmental, cultural, and educational value.

The necessity of using folk mobile games as an effective tool for patriotic education and for forming schoolchildren’s positive motivation towards physical activity is highlighted. A selection of traditional games has been made, and their effectiveness in shaping patriotic feelings among schoolchildren has been determined.
