DEVELOPMENT OF COGNITIVE INTERESTS OF SENIOR PRESCHOOL AGE CHILDREN IN PROJECT ACTIVITIES

The article discusses the role of project activities in the development of cognitive interests of older preschool children. It has been proven that the project approach is an effective tool that simultaneously improves the quality of the educational process and stimulates children’s cognitive interests. Based on scientific research, the concepts of «interest», «cognitive interest», «cognitive interest of senior preschool children» and «project activity» are revealed. Interests are understood as a selective emotional and cognitive attitude of an individual towards objects, phenomena, events of the surrounding reality, as well as towards certain types of activities that are of vital importance to them. It has been found that cognitive interest is interrelated with the intellectual and emotional-volitional sphere of the child, and the stages of development of cognitive interest have been identified, namely: interest, curiosity, cognitive interest itself, and theoretical interest. In the study, the cognitive interest of a child of senior preschool age is considered as the child's active internal orientation towards cognition of the surrounding world, which manifests itself in the form of curiosity, interest, and desire to learn new things, ask questions, experiment and acquire knowledge through personal experience. This interest is an important factor in the development of a child’s thinking, imagination, creativity and personality formation, as well as the basis for the formation of learning motivation in subsequent stages of development. The essence and features of project activity are considered. A methodology for developing the cognitive interests of senior preschool children in project activities is presented. It has been established that the organization of project activities for children contributes to the harmonious development of the child’s personality through their own interest and cooperation with the teacher, as well as improving the professional skills of the teacher themselves. It has been concluded that project activities are an effective form of organizing the educational process, ensuring the development of cognitive interests in preschool children.
