The concept of «procrastination», its main parameters, and existing strategies (conscious or unconscious postponement, necessary or personally significant, voluntary or imposed, unnecessary or irrational, with or without awareness of potential negative consequences, accompanied by subjective discomfort or not). Among the most popular psychological theories of procrastination, three theories are considered: self-regulation, avoidance, and motivation. The typology of procrastinators distinguishes five types of people: perfectionists, procrastinators, disorganized people, unmotivated people, and distracted people. The causes and effects of procrastination among school-age youth have been characterized. Empirically, it was found that the majority of respondents (approximately 89%) correctly understand the concept of procrastination as putting things off until later, of which 50% of respondents notice procrastination sporadically (i.e., sometimes, situationaly), and 39% of respondents notice procrastination constantly. 92.5% of young people experience procrastination in their studies, and 50% in their everyday lives. The study found no correlation between the level of procrastination characteristic of young people and their level of personal maturity. The following ways of overcoming procrastination were suggested: planning; analyzing fears; finding pleasant personal motivations; developing self-control; elimination of distractions; adherence to a daily routine; alleviation of stress symptoms; small rewards; giving up aggressive self-criticism; support from loved ones; cognitive-behavioral therapy; keeping a journal. Approaches and methods for overcoming procrastination are described.
