The article presents a review of Yuriy Pelekh's monograph “Axiopedagogy: Theoretical and Methodological Concept and Practical Perspectives,” which reveals the concept of axiopedagogy as a holistic theoretical and methodological basis for value-oriented education. It shows that the author proposes a concentric model of personality development that combines the mission of the teacher, their professional skills, and the values of the learner, orienting the pedagogical process toward the formation of value-based competencies and a responsible attitude toward freedom of choice. The philosophical foundations of axiopedagogy, based on ontology, gnoseology, phenomenology, and axiology, as well as on the historical traditions of value-based education – from ancient concepts to modern pedagogical approaches – are emphasized.
The contribution of the monograph to understanding the moral and ethical challenges of technocratic civilization is analyzed, in particular the gap between what humanity “can” do thanks to technological progress and what it “should” do in view of human dignity and the common good. The potential of axiology as a theoretical “ethical brake” for educational practices that risk losing their value dimension is revealed. The practical significance of the work for the development of pedagogical research tools, training and professional development programs for teachers, the design of training courses, and the implementation of value-oriented education in educational institutions at various levels is noted.
The monograph is considered a significant contribution to the development of contemporary pedagogical thought and an important resource for teachers, scholars, educational policy researchers, and anyone working on the formation of personal values in an unstable world. The review confirms the relevance of the study for contemporary European educational policy.
